The series of Czechoslovak football legends from The Czech Mint has enjoyed a new strange addition to the family. Karol Dobias was added among the real stars of the national football immortalized in a noble silver - defensive support of the team that brought the title of championship from the European Championship in Belgrade in 1976.

When the members of our national football team went to the championship in the former Yugoslavia, certainly they dreamed of touching gold for the first time in history. After a dramatic match against the Soviets, the Dutch and in the final with the Germans proved that the yellow metal unconditionally belongs to them and the dream of millions of Czechoslovak fans finally came alive. Karol Dobias, nicknamed Patino, contributed to the triumph with his tactical defense and sophisticated offensive elements.

He was born on 18 December 1947 in Handlova. In his life he wore the shirt with lion during 67 matches. First as a player of Spartak Trnava, later as a member of Bohemians Praha. Apart from Belgrade, Karol also represented Czechoslovakia during the World Championship in Mexico in 1970. The years 1970 and 1971 brought him awards Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year. In the Premier League, Karol Dobias played in 344 matches and scored almost 30 goals. He became champion of Czechoslovakia five times and the Czechoslovak Cup winner three times playing for Spartak Trnava. Karolko also played abroad in 1980-1984, he worked in Lokeren, Belgium. After returning home he became a coach in teams of Brno, Sparta and Bohemians. He is renowned for his technique that is an inspiration for many league defenders nowadays.

The design of both sides of the coin is made by the Czech medalist MgA. Petr Horak. On the reverse side of the original silver Smart coin is an unforgettable defender together with his name, signature and text Champions of Europe BELGRADE 1976.Modern mintage with ageless sports topics and heroes are beautiful challenge to create an original collection.

The obverse side of the coin is formed by issuer`s attributes and the motif of a ball in the shape of a heart - a symbol of Nadace fotbalových internacionálů (International Football Foundation), which will support our former football champions with the part of the earnings from the sale of these coins !
