Three Musketeers
The second silver coin from the Czech Mint's four-part collector's miniseries The Three Musketeers features the boastful Porthos and the hardened Cardinal Richelieu.
Porthos is a great showman who likes to dress flamboyantly, a pretentious braggart and an unrestrained indulger. He loves wine, women, singing, good food and his appetite impressed even Louis XIII himself. He acts impulsively, but despite his explosiveness, he is a good man. He can be naive, noisy and comical, but what he lacks under his hat he makes up for with his enormous strength, size and loyalty. His inseparable friends Athos, Aramis and d'Artagnan can always count on him... Cardinal Richelieu, the arch-enemy of the royal musketeers, is Porthos's exact opposite - his intellect and treacherous wiles serve him in his quest for power. This eminence, who has turned the French monarch into an obedient puppet, is the true ruler of the country. Although at first glance he appears to be a common villain, he is in fact a capable leader who can appreciate bravery even in his enemies.
The medal maker Matěj Funk, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to the distinctive depiction of the Musketeer and the Cardinal, which is surrounded by the English inscription PORTHOS AND CARDINAL RICHELIEU. The additional motif is the fanciful notes, which symbolise Porthos's penchant for worldly pleasures. The obverse side then presents musketeer's chords and the French motto UN POUR TOUS - TOUS POUR UN (one for all, all for one). As the licence to issue commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.
You can store the complete Musketeer collection in a collector's etui which you can also find in the Czech Mint's offer.
