Product description

1 Oz silver Bavarian thaler minted in 2025 commemorates the former glory of the Kingdom of Bavaria and its most famous iconic building – Neuschwanstein Castle.

In the heart of the Bavarian Alps, a rocky cliff rises, which, at a height of 965 meters above sea level, offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains, lakes and pine forests. It is no wonder that King Ludwig II of Bavaria had a private retreat built here. At first glance, Neuschwanstein looks like a medieval castle of a Teutonic knight, but in reality it is a castle from the 19th century. Ludwig liked to live in a world of dreams. He was not very interested in governing, but he enjoyed using the state treasury. He spent fantastic sums not only on building castles, but also on operas by Richard Wagner, whom he admired immensely and to whom Neuschwanstein was dedicated. However, the Bavarian Council of Ministers finally ran out of patience – the profligate king was arrested, declared incompetent and died shortly afterwards under suspicious circumstances. He did not live to see Neuschwanstein completed… Just six weeks after the king’s death, the castle was opened to public and quickly became one of the most famous tourist destinations in Germany. Although architecturally it is a disparate combination of styles – from Romanesque to Gothic to Byzantine –, the visual charm of the building is undeniable. No less attractive to visitors is the story of the king who was considered crazy…

While the obverse side of the tolar presents Neuschwanstein Castle in all its glory, the reverse features the large state emblem of Bavaria. The minting was carried out by the Bavarian State Mint, Bayerisches Hauptmünzamt.

With a minimal premium to the market price of silver, the Bavarian Tolar is an attractive alternative to investment coins. The mintage is unlimited.
