Silver medal Bouzov Castle proof
Bouzov Castle ranks among the most popular historic sights in the Czech republic, and it is also a favourite venue for filmmakers. The castle is located in central Moravia, west of the town Litovel, in a village with identical name. It was founded at the beginning of the 14th century, but it ows its present apperance to a major reconstruction carried out at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Owners of the castle, whose name was probably derived from the name of the first of them known as Buz of Buzov, changed frequently. A long line of Czech and Moravian families held the castle throughout centuries. In 1999, it was proclaimed a national heritage site. At present, Bouzov is also a sought-after locality, where many films and TV projects were shot.
Author of the medal, Petr Horák, chose the front view of the Bouzov castle as the main motif of the obverse side, and placed the name of the castle above in the upper part.
The reverse side shows part of the interior of the castle: a hall with Gothic ceiling, column and coat-of-arms of Jobst, the Margrave of Moravia, one of the owners of the castle in the 14th century.
