Czech Seals

The eighth and final issue from the Czech Mint of the Czech Seal cycle concludes a chapter reminiscent of medieval cities that were centers of trade, crafts, culture and also power. The silver medal embellished with patina is dedicated to Kutná Hora.

Kutná Hora
was founded relatively late and spontaneously. No locator chose a place to establish it on an important trade route or by a river - the reason for its creation was the discovery of silver. The influx of mining and coin experts, but also various adventurers, led for some time to unplanned housing development, which only later gained some order. The town originated from mining settlements after 1290 and it was privileged from the very beginning thanks to the production of precious metal. For this reason, Kutná Hora had its emblem already in the 14th century.

The obverse side of the medal is dedicated to the
artistic reconstruction of the period seal. "As in many other cities, the emblem of Kutná Hora gradually changed according to political development, but a selected example shows it in the form used in the relatively stable times of the Luxembourg monarchs. The seal from 1347, with a relief modeled in the beauty and richness of the culminating Gothic style, has a reminder in the middle of the original simple emblem - namely a crossed hammer and pick. However, the main attention is drawn to younger heraldic figures - an eagle, a lion and a royal crown. The author of the seal solved an additional difficult task, namely the involvement of both heraldic animals in an event reserved mostly for shield bearers, " Michal Vitanovský, the academic sculptor and the author of the medal and expert on Czech history explains. The reverse side then presents a view of the historic Kutná Hora.

The medal is stored in a special packaging with drawings and the author's accompanying word.
