Product description
The silver commemorative medal to the birth of a child issued by the Czech Mint combines two ancient czech traditions - the custom of giving a newborn baby a coin from precious metal for luck together with the historic mintage of the so-called thalers.
Did you know that the thalers spread from the Czech lands to the whole world? Count Šlik began to coin them in Jáchymov in the 16th century. The Czech lands were abundant in silver so it should have replaced gold coins, for which there was not enough precious metal in Europe. The names of many other coins and currencies, including world-renowned dollars were later derived from the thaler. The thalers served primarily for trade, but they also played a representative role. These tasks are still fulfilled today. The thaler to the birth of a child combines the material value of the pure metal with the personal value that is enhanced by the engraved dedication.
The art form of the obverse side of the thaler for the year 2020 was made by the gifted artist Lenka Nebeská, DiS. There is the sleeping baby in parents arms together with the inscription THALER TO BIRTH OF CHILD 2020. The reverse side is then dominated by a heart-shaped ribbon that defines the space to engrave the dedication or the name and date of the child's birth. The maximum range of engraved text is bounded by 4 lines of 15 characters including spaces.
Each thaler is stored in an elegant gift wrapping which can be complemented with personal dedication, but also baby´s information or photos.
