Product description
This unique commemorative medal, which marks various anniversaries of 2015, will become a rarity for all collectors who are fans of fresh ideas in the otherwise relatively conservative world of coinage.
The College of Craft in Jablonec nad Nisou is the only institution in Central Europe that educates young medal makers – future designers of coins and medals. Among its students you will find pioneering artists who are looking for their own way and trying to distinguish themselves from the "mundane" production. In 2015, the student graduation was very fruitful and presented a number of exceptional ideas. The most interesting was the work of Jiří Hanuš, who has already demonstrated his qualities by winning the Czech National Bank's competition to design a coin commemorating the 25th anniversary of the Velvet Revolution.
Jiří Hanuš's original work demonstrates how five important anniversaries can be aesthetically and functionally placed on a one single-sided commemorative medal. A matrix with letters and numbers is minted into the brass – seemingly without order or meaning. However, the elegant case along with the medal also houses five special templates made using a 3D printer. With their help, the individual anniversaries that the medal commemorates can then be decoded – the templates can simply be placed on the medal, inserted into the guiding line, and read through the holes. But that's not all – the medal also contains hidden private messages, except that the corresponding templates are not part of the set, and their secrets are fully in the power of the author…
The commemorative medal was struck in an edition of only 50 pieces.
