Traditional Ducat Series

In the footsteps of our ancestors - such is the theme of the Ducat Series of the Czech Mint in 2021. One such trace left by the ancient Czechs is the Chronicle of the Czechs by Cosmas. You can find it on the gold ten-ducat.

The chronicles, compiled
at the beginning of the 12th century AD by the chronicler Kosmas, represent the most important source for understanding the early Middle Ages from the point of view of the Czechs. They are an collection of folk literature, historical documents and the author's own experience.

"The main motif of the obverse side is
the figure of Kosma as depicted in the Leipzig manuscript of his chronicle. The fact that it is a literary monument is proven by the period script in low relief in the background and by the ornament inspired by medieval illumination, Lenka Nebeská, DiS., the author of ten-ducat explains. The reverse side, which is common to all four mintages of the Ducat series, then presents decorative ornaments inspired by our prehistoric, Celtic, Moravian and Czech ancestors.

The schedule of issuance of gold mintage, which weighs ten times the weight of one ducat, counts just 100 pieces. Its specifications are inspired by the First Republic St. Wenceslas Ducats.
