Traditional ducat series
The fourth Ducat series of the Czech Mint, created for Slovak collectors and investors in 2024, tells the story of Maria Theresa. The famous monarch is presented as a reformer on the gold ten-ducat.
The battles that broke out after Maria Theresa seized power became known as the Wars of the Austrian Succession, and the backwardness of the Habsburg Empire was on full display. The setbacks, which were hard for a determined and stubborn woman to bear, then became the pretext for the implementation of large-scale reforms in education, agriculture, finance, the military, the judiciary, ... These social and economic changes during the forty years of Maria Theresa's reign led to an unprecedented improvement in the position of the state and the often bleak situation of the subjects. Wise decisions earned the monarch admiration not only within the Habsburg Empire but also among her enemies. A number of Theresian reforms still influence the lives of Central Europeans today.
The obverse side of the ten-ducat, which is the work of Slovak medal maker Branislav Ronai, presents symbolic representations of the Theresian reforms - military, medical, economic, judicial, educational and agricultural. The reverse side bears a portrait of Maria Theresa.
The gold coinage, which weighs ten times as much as a single ducat, is issued in a limited edition of only 50 pieces. Its specifications are inspired by the First Republic St. Wenceslas Ducats.
