The coin is minted from an alloy containing 900 parts silver and 100 parts copper in proof-quality. The field of the coin is highly polished and the relief is matte, the edge is plain with the inscription “ČESKÁ NÁRODNÍ BANKA * Ag 0.900 * 13g *”.
The obverse side of the coin depicts the front of the Prague municipal maternity hospital with a bird’s wing placed above as a symbol of flight and protection. Around the top and right rim is the inscription of the name of the state in Czech “ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA”. The denomination and the abbreviated unit of Czech currency “200 Kč” are placed on the left side, along with the mintmark of the Czech Mint.
The principal theme of the reverse side is an effigy of Josef Hlávka. On the left is the inscription “JOSEF HLÁVKA” and on the right are the anniversary dates “1908–2008”. The coin was designed by Vojtěch Dostál whose initial, the reversed letter “D”, is placed close to the right rim of the coin.
Each coin comes complete with a postcard-sized catalogue card made of brick-red semi-carton with a fine grid pattern. It features the coin in silver colour, its relief being dry-stamped. The coin description is in Czech and English. The card is identical for both standard and proof coins.
