Traditional Ducat Series

The ducat series of the Czech Mint follows the footsteps of our ancestors in 2021. The Christian cross from Mikulčice, which you will find on the gold five-ducat, commemorates the Slavs from the times of Great Moravia.

The origin of
the silver charm in the shape of a cross depicting the martyred Christ is unclear. Regardless of whether it is evidence of the influence of the Orthodox or Catholic mission, however, it shows the Christian faith of the ancient Slavs living at the turn of the 8th and 9th centuries AD on the territory of Great Moravia.

"The depiction of the
Mikulčice cross is the dominant feature of the obverse side. In a low relief in the background behind the cross there is a decor inspired by Slavic filigree jewelry, which symbolizes the historical period from which the artefact comes, " Lenka Nebeská, DiS., the author of the five-ducat says. The reverse side, which is common to all four mintages of the Ducat series, then presents decorative ornaments inspired by our prehistoric, Celtic, Moravian and Czech ancestors.

The schedule of issuance of the gold mintage, which weighs five ducats, counts only
100 pieces. Its specifications are inspired by the legendary St. Wenceslas ducats.
