Product description

Commemorative set from The Royal Mint commemorates the 100th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s birth.

Queen Elizabeth II was born in 1926 and ascended to the throne in 1952. She became the first British monarch ever to reach her 95th birthday. She was also the first to celebrate the so-called “Sapphire” Jubilee—that is, the 65th anniversary of her accession to the throne—thus surpassing even the legendary Queen Victoria, who reigned for 63 years. In 2022, Elizabeth II broke another record, and her people had the opportunity to celebrate the 70th “platinum” anniversary of the reign of their beloved monarch. Soon after, however, she breathed her last. She lived to the incredible age of 96, 70 of which she spent at the helm of the monarchy she lived and breathed for. Throughout that time, she was admired for her dignity, prudence, discipline, and sense of duty. Even in times of great social upheaval, she was a beacon of calm, order, and continuity for the island kingdom, so it is no wonder that her subjects still remember her…

The set consists of three coins:

A sixpence from 1926, the year Elizabeth II was born, bears a portrait of her grandfather George V, the British crown, and a heraldic lion.

A five-shilling coin from 1953, the year Elizabeth II was crowned, features the Queen on horseback, the British crown, the national flora, and heraldic symbols.

The richly detailed reverse of the five-pound coin from 2026, the year Elizabeth II would have celebrated her 100th birthday, features, for example, the Queen’s monogram and crown. All of this is the work of heraldist Timothy Noad. It is interesting to note that the decorative pearl wreath is made up of exactly one hundred pearls. The obverse side is dedicated to the attributes of the coin’s issuer—namely, a portrait of the Queen’s son and current monarch Charles III, the text CHARLES III D G REX F D (Charles III, by the Grace of God, King, Defender of the Faith), and the nominal value 5 POUNDS (GBP).

The coin set is stored in special packaging, which tells its story through words and images (in English).
