Traditional ducat series
The traditional Ducat series of the Czech Mint pays tribute to the supernatural protectors of our homeland in 2024. The relief of the gold ducat commemorates the legend of the Knights of Blanik.
Once upon a time, an unequal battle took place on Mount Blaník. The brave Bohemians fought bravely, but eventually succumbed to foreign superiority and fell to the last man. However, their bodies mysteriously disappeared. Legend has it that the brave knights have sunk into the mountain where they sleep, waiting for their moment to take revenge. Strange things have been happening on Blanik since ever. The locals have heard drumming, trumpeting, military commands and the neighing of horses. Some people have even disappeared. When they reappeared years later, they said that they had lost their way inside the rock, where they saw knights in full armour - ready to come to the rescue when our country was at its worst. They will be led into battle by Saint Wenceslas himself. Together, they will confront their enemies and, without a doubt, drive them away…
Medal maker Lenka Nebeská, DiS., dedicated the obverse side of the ducat to a trio of knights in full armour. Their shield presents a Bohemian lion and the Mount Blaník rises in the background behind them. The reverse side, which is common to all four Ducat series mints, bears the heraldic animals of the Czech lands - a lion and two eagles.
The commemorative mintage of only 300 pieces respects the specifications defined by the famous St. Wenceslas ducats. The gold ducat is not only an addition to a collection, but also a traditional gift - for example, for a christening or a wedding.
