Product description
Pillars of the Slovak Nation – this is the theme of the sixth Ducat series from the Czech Mint in 2026, created for Slovak collectors and investors. The gold double ducat features Ľudovít Štúr, who symbolize the Slovak freedom.
Ľudovít Štúr was a versatile intellectual who devoted himself to linguistics and politics, as well as to economic, biological, and mathematical issues. He was an outstanding teacher, theorist, and organizer, but also a man full of passion, a sense of justice, and ideals. He longed to awaken the Slovaks from their lethargy and transform them from a traditional ethnic group into a self-confident modern nation. He played a key role in the codification of standard Slovak, which he based on Central Slovak dialects, and as the first deputy in the history of the Hungarian Diet, he then demanded its use in local administration and education. When the Slovak Uprising broke out, he led the efforts to create an autonomous Slovakia with its own administration, borders, and representation. The most prominent figure of the Slovak national movement in the 19th century gave his name to an entire generation of national revivalists. Slovak national revivalist- the Štúr group significantly influenced the cultural and political development of Slovak society, and without their selfless work, which inspired multitudes of patriots, the Slovaks might never have achieved their freedom…
The obverse side of the double-ducat coin, designed by medalist Branislav Ronai, features a characteristic portrait of Ľudovít Štúr, behind whom rises a fragment of Devín Castle, where the great man wrote and met with other prominent figures of his time. The relief also references his literary work—specifically the linguistic treatise NAUKA REČI SLOVENSKEJ and the poetry collection SPEVY A PIESNE. The composition is completed by Štúr’s dates of birth and death, 1815–1856, and his signature. The reverse side features a pair of pillars, which refer to the theme of the Ducat series; a Slavic linden tree, into which a double-barred cross is embedded; the Slovak Tatra Mountains, dominated by the peak of Kriváň; Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, the patron saint of Slovakia; and a dove, the symbol of Christianity.
The mintage of this double ducat gold coin is limited to just 50 pieces. Its design is inspired by the St. Wenceslas ducats of the First Republic.
