Product description

The sixth Ducat Series from the Czech Mint, created in 2026 for Slovak collectors and investors, is dedicated to the pillars of the Slovak nation. The gold 5-ducat coin features Milan Rastislav Štefánik, who symbolizes Slovak courage.

Milan Rastislav Štefánik was a visionary of extraordinary talent. He was born in Slovakia, but was a cosmopolitan who found a home in Paris, where he combined his passion for astronomy and meteorology with an insatiable thirst for adventure. While studying the night sky, he traveled through Africa, Tahiti, Brazil, the Galápagos, and Ecuador, and climbed Mont Blanc six times. On his travels, he served the interests of France, thereby winning supporters in the highest circles. His undeniable charisma also helped him establish contacts with social and political leaders. When World War I broke out, he became a fearless pilot. He quickly rose to become a respected officer, and because he demonstrated exceptional organizational skills and diplomatic talent, he became the organizer of the Czechoslovak Legions. He worked selflessly toward the creation of a united state of Czechs and Slovaks, for which he managed to inspire a number of foreign statesmen, and ultimately succeeded. Unfortunately, he did not enjoy the fruits of his labor for long. He perished in a plane crash, but his energetic spirit became an immortal inspiration…

The obverse of the five-ducat coin, designed by medalist Branislav Ronaie, features a portrait of M. R. Štefánik in profile, surrounded by a night sky, which references his career as a pilot, meteorologist, and astronomer. The composition is completed by the silhouette of Czechoslovakia from 1918 and a view of the Milan Rastislav Štefánik Memorial. The reverse side features a pair of pillars, which refer to the theme of the Ducat series; a Slavic linden tree, into which a double-barred cross is embedded; the Slovak Tatra Mountains, dominated by the peak of Kriváň; Our Lady of Seven Sorrows, the patron saint of Slovakia; and a dove, the symbol of Christianity.

This gold coin, weighing five ducats, is issued in a limited mintage of just 50 pieces and adheres to the specifications set by the First Republic’s St. Wenceslas ducats.
