Gold coin 5000 CZK Buchlov stand

Buchlov is the last castle to be presented in the thematic five-year cycle of the Czech National Bank. The gold coin with a nominal value of 5,000 CZK is stamped in the design standard.

The Buchlov Royal Castle is the most significant dominant of the Moravian Slovak region. It was founded in the first half of the 13th century by Ottokar I of Bohemia as an administrative seat with jurisdiction. The castle was owned by Czech monarchs for several centuries, but most of the time it was pledged by rich Moravian families who were royal creditors. From the architectural point of view, the beginnings of Buchlov date back to the transitional Romanesque-Gothic period, but the austere fortress was gradually rebuilt into a comfortable Renaissance mansion. The castle did not either avoid the Baroque alterations, and its historical significance today lies in the unique preservation of the original architectural elements from individual periods.

The winner of the Czech National Bank art competition and the author of the commemorative coin was the medal maker MgA. Josef Oplištil, for "the imaginative connection of the reverse and obverse sides with the silhouette of the castle core". While the building is depicted in simple outlines, which incorporate heraldic animals from the large coat of arms of the Czech Republic on the obverse side, on the reverse side there is the same view on the castle, but realistic with a wealth of architectural details.
