Mythical Creatures

The new collector's series of the Czech Mint presents a dozen of the Mythical creatures known from legends and fairy tales. First of all, the dragon appears on gold coins.

The majestic dragons that
fly and spew fire are renowned for their power. Some of them use it to do good and bring happiness, others to destroy and accumulate wealth… The evil dragons that symbolize the chaos and power of hell, are typical of Europe. Therefore killing a dragon is considered a heroic act in European mythology, and symbolizes the victory of light over darkness. Dragon-fighters such as St. George fought the bloodthirsty beasts that destroyed everything around and fed on animals and humans — mostly beautiful virgins. The Asian tradition sees dragons in a different way. They are noble creatures whose virtues are worthy of the emperors according to them. They are symbols of order, happiness and birth. They like to help people - they bring rain and their breath has healing properties…

Medal maker
Asamat Baltev, DiS. chose the European variant of the dragon. On the reverse side there is a winged lizard that spews fire and this is supplemented with an English inscription DRAGON. It is interesting that the coin has a classic coin frame and the relief is surrounded by decorative ornaments that occur in the entire collector´s cycle. Since the Czech Mint coins are issued with a foreign license of the island of Niue, they bear the name and the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of the issue 2020 on the obverse side.

The Czech Mint offers a
collector's book where you can store all twelve gold coins from the cycle Mythical Creatures.
