Old Picture Postcards

Another Prague landmark that appears on the gold mini coin of the Czech Mint set in a replica of a historical postcard is the Týn Church.

The Church of the Mother of God before Týn
- popularly the Týn Church - is an unmissable Prague landmark. It is characterized not only by its construction, but also by its sculptural decoration. It is inextricably linked with the Hussite era and with the reign of George of Poděbrady. On the collector's valuable window lithography, which served as a model for the packaging of the coin, the Old Town tabernacle is depicted together with other magnificent landmarks of the capital. The postcard with a Czech text was issued by the Dresden publishing house C. Schwager as early as 1899, but it was not sent until 1903. This fact shows the popularity of such postcards, which were issued in larger numbers.

The reverse side of the coin, which was processed by the medal maker
MgA. Tereza Eisnerová, was dedicated to the western facade of the church supplemented with an inscription TÝNSKÝ CHRÁM – PRAHA (TÝN CHURCH – PRAGUE). Because the coins of the Czech Mint are lcensed by a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - a nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD), the name and portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. and the year of issue 2021.

The issue, which will delight both numismatists and philokartists, is an original and affordable collector's item and an attractive regional gift.
