Product description
The Infant Jesus of Prague, whom people from all over the world ask for help, healing and peace, has become the motif of the Czech Mint's gold ducat for the second time.
Is the miraculous power of the Infant Jesus of Prague real? Many of the believers who repeatedly return to it to say thank you for the favour shown to them, would tell you. The place where one can ask for miracles is not far from Malostranské Square. People have believed in the supernatural power of the statue of the Divine Child since the Thirty Years' War, when it was donated to the Church of Our Lady of Victory by Polyxena of Lobkowice. The noblewoman received the baby Jesus as a wedding gift from her mother who came from Spain and she who received it from her mother when she got married in Bohemia. People soon began to notice that Mala Strana was out of trouble and concluded that it was the baby Jesus that saved them from the plague and the Swedes. The fame of the statue, which heals the lame and grants wishes to supplicants, then spread to all corners of the world. Even though they often have no idea where Prague is situated, Spaniards, Italians, Irish and Latinos pray to the Infant Jesus of Prague. Thirty thousand people attend services dedicated to the Infant Jesus of Prague in India.
The gold ducat is the work of medal maker Eva Prousková, DiS. As the miraculous statue regularly changes its clothes, the obverse side of the ducat also changes - the Infant Jesus wears a garment that symbolizes penitence in 2024. The blessing baby is surrounded by a floral decoration and the Czech-Columbian inscription PRAŽSKÉ JEZULÁTKO – JESULUS PRAGENSIS. The reverse side bears the two royal attributes of the Infant Jesus of Prague - a crown and an apple. The composition of the reverse is completed by shells and pearls - motifs taken from the crown, which was a gift for the Baby Jesus from Pope Benedict XVI.
The gold ducat is an attractive and valuable gift for important occasions. Its integral part is a unique certificate of authenticity which is covered with a layer of gold.
