Gold ducat series SR 2026 - Pillars of the Slovak nation – set of four medals proof
Product description
In 2026, the Czech Mint released its sixth Ducat Series, intended primarily for Slovak collectors and investors. This comprehensive set of four gold ducat issues is dedicated to the pillars of the Slovak nation.
Upon his abdication in 1935, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk stated that “states are sustained by the ideals from which they were born”. He was undoubtedly aware of the grave danger threatening the young republic and therefore appealed to traditional values that would enable its citizens to persevere. The president did not specify these ideals at the time, nor was it necessary—during the First Republic, it was clear what he meant. The founding of the state and the pride associated with it were still fresh in people’s memories, and concepts such as democracy, law, nation, and homeland were more tangible than they are today... The ideals that became the pillars of the Slovak nation were formed over centuries and remain valid to this day: The obverse sides of the ducat coins feature portraits of great figures—Cyril and Methodius with halos; Ľudovít Štúr with his significant literary works and Devín Castle, where he wrote; M. R. Štefánik with the silhouette of Czechoslovakia, the famous memorial mound, and the night sky, which allude to his career as a pilot, meteorologist, and astronomer; and finally, T. G. Masaryk. The reverse side, common to all four coins, features a pair of pillars, which refer to the theme of the Ducat series; a Slavic linden tree, into which a double-barred cross is embedded; the Slovak Tatra Mountains, dominated by the peak of Kriváň; Our Lady of Sorrows, who is the patron saint of Slovakia, and a dove, which is a symbol of Christianity. The intricate reliefs are the work of Slovak medalist Branislav Ronaie.
Ducat FAITH: The missionaries Cyril and Methodius brought to our Slavic ancestors not only the Christian religion, but also its culture, traditions, values, and education. The holy brothers won the hearts and minds of both the common people and the local princes, who then adopted their faith as their own and passed it on to future generations.
Double ducat FREEDOM: National revivalist Ľudovít Štúr longed to awaken the Slovaks from their lethargy and transform them from a traditional ethnic group into a self-confident modern nation. He played a key role in the codification of standard Slovak, led the efforts to create an autonomous Slovakia, and above all inspired an entire generation of patriots.
Five-ducat COURAGE: General Milan Rastislav Štefánik was a visionary with an extraordinary talent for science, politics, and military affairs, which he used in tireless service to his homeland. He worked selflessly for the creation of a common state of Czechs and Slovaks, and although his life was cut short, his energetic spirit became an immortal inspiration.
Ten-ducat DIGNITY: The liberator president, Tomáš Garrigue Masaryk, broke the chains of the Habsburg Monarchy and brought the Czechoslovaks their long-awaited freedom and independence. His dignified presence gave the young republic the prestige, international reputation, and respect it needed to stand its ground in a rapidly changing world.
The set of ducats is placed in a luxurious wooden case supplemented with a special certificate of authenticity, which highlights the virtues of each historical figure. The mintage is limited to just 50 sets. The gold ten-ducat coin is not sold separately and can only be obtained as part of this set!
