Product description
The Czech Mint selected players of two big generations of our ice sport in the fourteen-piece collector´s series of gold coins called "Legends of Czechoslovak hockey". František Pospíšil can not miss them.
The ice hockey World Championship was held in Prague in 1972. Canada and the United States of America did not participate in the championship for political reasons, and the Soviet Union was the most serious opponent of the home team. The Soviets dominated the previous nine championships, and the Czechoslovaks still remembered their invasion in 1968. Therefore the match was very personal. "From the beginning, we were afraid of the championship, it would be very bad to disappoint homeland," remembers František Pospíšil, who then became a fresh captain. However, Czechoslovak hockey players did not disappoint, broke down a series of Soviet victories and became world champions for the third time in history after a long twenty-three years. But that was not all. Our team has achieved the championship title two more times during six years in 1976 and 1977. It was František Pospíšil, who took over the cup and raised him triumphantly as the first of the team.
