Formation of Royal Capital City of Prague
The Czech Mint closes the four-part mini-series of gold coins called The Establishment of the Royal Capital City of Prague by Hradčany.
As its name suggests, Hradčany is closely connected with Prague Castle - the millennium seat of Czech kings. Therefore, it is no wonder that they have been the center of power for centuries. There are many magnificent palaces on the Hradčanské Square - Martinický and Schwarzenberg in Renaissance style, Šternberk and Tuscan in Baroque style, Archbishop's in Rococo style or Salmovský in Classicist style. In the Royal Garden there is the Queen Anne's Summer Palace that is considered by many to be the most exquisite example of Renaissance architecture in the north of the Alps. Hradčany is not only the seat of power, but also abound in the wealth of buildings connected with spiritualism. We can not miss the Baroque Loreto with a replica of the Virgin Mary's House, the ancient Strahov Monastery with its majestic libraries, the Romanesque St. George's Basilica and our most important St. Vitus Cathedral, which dominates Prague Castle.
The reverse side of the coin was made by the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů and it is dominated by St. Vitus Cathedral. The view of the main facade of the cathedral with rosette was complemented by a Latin inscription HRADTSIN (Hradčany), together with the historical emblem of the town. The obverse side is common to the entire miniseries and bears the Prague silhouette (bordered by Prague Castle and Charles Bridge) accompanied by the inscription PRAGA CAPUT REGNI (Prague, Head of the Kingdom). The obverse side also bears the attributes of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a license to coin its own commemorative coins. The attributes are the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of the issue 2019 and the nominal value of 10 DOLLARS (NZD).
The complete miniseries commemorates the Old Town, New Town, Lesser Town and Hradčany. It is an addition to a numismatic collection or an attractive commemoration of Capital Prague.
