Gold slovak coin 10 EUR 2024 - cultural heritage - BLUE PRINTING proof
Product description
The blueprint which is an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO, is commemorated by the Slovak gold euro coin minted in quality proof.
Blueprinting is a traditional printing technique that has been used since the 18th century. First of all, a special compound is applied to the canvas using a hand-carved wooden mould to protect the areas to be left uncoloured. The fabric is then soaked in a bath of natural blue dye mixed from indigo. Finally, the protective film is removed, and the design emerges on the canvas in the original colour of the fabric... Blueprinting was popular among townspeople and country people alike. It was used on bed linen and folk clothing. Depending on the composition of the bath and the number of soakings, different shades could be achieved and the patterns on the fabric varied in different regions. Some of the wooden moulds in use today are up to 300 years old and have been worked by seventh-generation printers. The blueprint has become an intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO. Five countries - Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and Hungary - have applied for its inscription, and they are duly proud of their modrotisk, modrotlač, blueprint, blaudruck and kékfestés...
The commemorative coin was designed by Slovak medal maker Karol Ličko. On both sides you will find a floral motif typical of Slovak blueprinting. While on the obverse side it is in the form of a wooden mould, on the reverse side you will find a finished fabric with the text BLUEPRINT - IMMORTAL CULTURAL HERITAGE. The relief on the obverse side still shows the craftsman at work. The necessary attributes of the euro coin are the nominal value of 100 EURO, the inscription SLOVAKIA, the year of issue 2024 and the Slovak national emblem.
The coin was minted by the Kremnica Mint and issued by the National Bank of Slovakia.
