Battleship built from coins

Looking for a tip for an interesting trip? The Museum of Records and Curiosities Pelhřimov opened the tourist season with the unveiling of a new exhibit, which is the warship Bismarck built from 85,302 penny coins! The discarded currency with a total face value of approximately 21,500 CZK is glued together with more than 14 litres of glue.

The largest model of the ship made from coins is 252 centimetres long and weighs 80 kilograms. It was created according to available plans in a scale of 1:100 and does not lack cannons, radio towers, lifeboats or two small aircraft.

Marek Šátka from Chomutov worked on the construction of the battle colossus for 15 months. The modeler was forced to stop work on the construction because he simply ran out of "building material".

For the installation of this exhibit, the museum completely rebuilt a part of its exhibition called Golden Czech Hands. With the support of the Czech Mint, which minted the used 10, 20, and 50-haler coins itself years ago, a new exhibition space was created that pays tribute to the craftsmanship of the Czech people.

The unique exhibitions of the Museum of Records and Curiosities Pelhřimov are open every day from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, including weekends and Mondays.
