Set of circulation coins 2025 Podyjí National Park stand
Product description
The series, prepared by the Czech Mint in cooperation with the Czech National Bank, presents the protected natural areas of the Czech Republic. The third set of circulation coins is dedicated to the Podyjí National Park.
In the past, there were many virgin river valleys in south-west Moravia. These have gradually fallen victim to the construction of water works or cottage settlements, but one valley has been preserved and was declared the Podyjí National Park in 1991. It owes its intact existence to its extremely rugged, impenetrable terrain and its location on the state border with Austria. From the 1950s to the 1980s, the Iron Curtain ran through the area. It was an inaccessible border zone - uninhabited and untouched by construction activity. The only reminders of human activity are small monuments and viewpoints that offer the most beautiful views of the meandering river in the country. On its 40-kilometre-long route from Vranov nad Dyjí to Znojmo, the middle course of the Dyje has created a canyon up to 220 metres deep, lined with various rock formations. Another characteristic feature of the park is the extraordinary diversity of plant and animal species with a high concentration in a small area. The 63 km² area contains many interesting communities with dozens of rare and protected plant and fungi species. The local assemblage of mammals, amphibians, reptiles and insects is extremely diverse. The smallest national park in the Czech Republic, which is also the only national park in Moravia, is followed by Thayatal, which is the smallest national park in Austria. Together they protect the preserved river valley of the Thaya in a richly wooded landscape for future generations...
The commemorative token from the workshop of the medal maker Alžběta Blažejová, which is an integral part of the set, is dominated by the meander of the river Thaya accompanied by a flying black stork. This rare feathered bird lives here and also appears in the logo of the national park. Of course, the set of circulation coins cannot be without currency - six metal coins with nominal values of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 CZK. The individual coins bear the year 2025 and have never been circulated.
All of this is set in a thematic package in the form of a booklet that presents the character of the national park in words and pictures.
