Smart coins featuring representatives of the famous family line

The House of Rohan is a significant noble family coming from Brittany. Over the centuries, it developed into several family lines, one if which – Rohan-Rochefort –moved to the Austrian Empire at the beginning of the 19th century. The Rohan-Rocheforts bought a small Baroque castle in Bohemia: Sychrov, and reconstructed and expanded it several times to suit their needs. The connecting link of all coins in the series is the obverse side featuring the coin’s essentials, and the family coat-of-arms.
The reverse sides of individual coins differ – depicting portraits of four members of the House of Rohan, dates of their birth and death, and symbols which characterize them. The four members are: Louis de Rohan, 1735–1803, cardinal of the Roman-Catholic church; a cardinal hat below documenting his clerical function.
Camille de Rohan, 1800–1892, representative of the “Czech“ family line, an intellectual interested in culture and architecture who carried out an extensive reconstruction of the Sychrov castle, and also an awardee of the Order of Golden Fleece.
Marie de Rohan, 1600–1679, her portrait complemented with a crown is a witness of her beauty.
Henri II de Rohan, 1579–1638, French military commander decorated with the highest military titles, one of the most prominent European military figures.
