Product description
The set of Slovak circulation coins with the year 2022, which is part of the cycle dedicated to Slovak castles and chateaus, commemorates the beauty of Spiš Castle.
The area below the Branisko mountain pass, which is the link between the Slovak regions of Spiš and Šariš, has been inhabited since the early Paleolithic. An ancient trade route passed through here, protected first by a fortress and later by a castle. The first castle buildings were built at 634 metres above sea level at the turn of the 11th and 12th centuries and the complex has been continuously expanded since then. Eventually, with an area of 41,426 m², it became one of the largest in Europe. Castle life was not easy - although the mighty walls repelled the Tatar invasion, the castle's inhabitants were plagued by the cold and the lack of a water well. As time went on, the estate ceased to meet the demands of the comfortable nobility and was abandoned. The castle burned down and turned into a ruin in 1780. Despite numerous rebuildings, it has retained unique elements of Romanesque and Gothic architecture. This is one of the reasons why it has earned its inscription on the UNESCO World Heritage List.
In the complete set you will find all valid euro circulation coins issued by the National Bank of Slovakia and minted by the Slovak Mint of Mincovňa Kremnica in 2022. The nominal values are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 c and 1 and 2 €, which are accompanied by a thematic commemorative mintage with the motif of Spiš Castle.
The set is placed in a special blister with a cover.
