Product description

Silver coins of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 100 CZK represent important institutions of the Czech Republic. The motif of the third issue, which boasts top-quality proof, is the Supreme Court.

While the Parliament, which is the legislature of the Czech Republic, is located in Prague, all of our highest courts are located in Brno. Why in the Moravia and not in the capital? The reason must be sought in the early history of Czechoslovakia. The renowned judges of the Austro-Hungarian courts worked in Vienna, and when the monarchy broke up, they were closer to Brno. The location was also more advantageous for the Slovak part of the republic... One of the high points of the Czech court system is the Supreme Court. It is the highest authority in civil and criminal proceedings, except for matters decided by the Constitutional Court and the Supreme Administrative Court. It is an appellate court and its main task is to unify Czech case law - that is, to decide on extraordinary appeals against decisions of lower courts of appeal. The judges of the Supreme Court rule according to their own conscience and are bound only by the law...

The commemorative coin is the work of academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů. The CNB's expert committee praised "the imaginative interconnection of the obverse and reverse sides and the perfect rendering of the heraldic animals and the statue of Justice". The obverse side also features the Brno seat of the Supreme Court. The texts on both sides state NEJVYŠŠÍ SOUD, ČESKÁ REPUBLIKA, 100 Kč, 2025 (THE SUPREME COURT, CZECH REPUBLIC, 100 CZK, 2025).

All Czech coins - both commemorative and circulation - are minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
