The CIT Coin´s silver coinfrom a series dedicated to both rivals, commemorates the fateful conflict that divided Caesar and Brutus.
As a brilliant military commander, he conquered Gaul and was the first Roman to reach Britain. As an eloquent master of intrigue, he dominated Roman politics and defied the Senate's monopoly on power. But even that was not enough for Gaius Julius Caesar, so he committed the unthinkable – he took up arms against his comrades and unleashed a civil war. At the end of the war, he became the sole and undisputed ruler of the Roman state. However, this did not please a group of conspirators who hoped to restore the republic and who attacked the dictator on March 14, 44 BC. At a Senate meeting, they stabbed him repeatedly with daggers, and Caesar defended himself with all his might. But then he saw someone he did not expect to be among the traitors. "You too, Brutus?" he said, giving up his efforts to save his life. His grief at being betrayed by his close friend, protégé, and unacknowledged son, Marcus Junius Brutus, was too great... The assassins hoped to be celebrated, but they were mistaken—the effect of the bloodshed was quite the opposite. Brutus' speech about killing the tyrant went unheeded, and Caesar's allies decided to take revenge. Instead of the expected freedom, another thirteen years of civil wars followed. Brutus, who was defeated in battle, committed suicide and his name became synonymous with betrayal. Caesar was declared a god and his adopted son Octavian became the first Roman emperor, Augustus...
The high relief on the reverse side of the coin presents portraits of Caesar and Brutus standing back to back. Between them there is a dagger of freedom and betrayal. The notches in the coin's frame represent the twenty-three wounds inflicted on the dictator by the conspirators. On the obverse side, you will find Caesar in full armor, sitting on a horse, and the attributes of the coin's issuer – the state emblem of Mongolia and the nominal value of 1000 TOGROG.
The coin, with an issue limit of only 500 pieces, is set in an elegant frame decorated with a thematic painting.
