Silver coin 2 Oz Lady Waterfall

This unique silver coin, called Lady Waterfall, stands out for its extreme relief depicting a woman’s face emerging from the water’s surface.

Water has long been a symbol of the unknown as the mirror-like surface separates the world we know from the depths that remain hidden from us. It is therefore no surprise that, in myths and legends, all manner of goddesses and fairies emerge from the water, embodying both beauty and mystery. Perhaps the best known is the Greek Aphrodite - the goddess of love, who was born from the sea foam. However, the aquatic world can also harbour dangers -  it is no coincidence that legends feature water nymphs or sirens who lure men to their doom. The endless world beneath the surface resembles our own consciousness -  a deep place full of memories, desires and fears, which we sometimes conceal even from ourselves; and a woman emerging from the water can thus symbolise awakening or rebirth -  something hidden that is now coming to the surface…

The reverse side of the coin features a relief of a face emerging from a surface formed by glossy blue enamel. The serene expression of the woman with her eyes closed contrasts with the dramatic design. The structure in the form of a geometric grid, which evokes the digital aesthetics of modern technology, flows seamlessly into a classical sculptural rendering. Since the coin is issued under licence by a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, its obverse bears the requisite attributes -  the national coat of arms, the nominal value of 2 dollars (NZD) and the year of issue 2026.
