Product description
This silver coin featuring the legendary Greek hero Achilles is a unique work of art and a collector's rarity.
According to a prophecy, the son of the goddess Thetis was to live a famous but short life as a hero, ending in the heat of battle. His unhappy mother wanted to protect her boy from this fate, so she washed him in the waters of the underworld river Styx. Achilles thus became invulnerable. His only weakness was his heel, which his mother held while bathing him. Although the young man grew up under protection and in seclusion, danger eventually found him. When King Agamemnon gathered his troops for the expedition against Troy, he could not do without the invincible Achilles. The young hero eagerly went into battle and fought under the walls of Troy for ten years. While he was a model of courage, strength, and speed for his comrades-in-arms, he became a terror to his enemies. His spear took the lives of countless men, from simple soldiers to the prince Hector. However, Achilles did not conquer Troy—the warrior met his fate. An arrow shot from the bow of the Trojan prince Paris struck Achilles in the heel. The prophecy was fulfilled – the greatest Greek hero had fallen, but his name lived on forever. It became synonymous with invincibility and vulnerability...
The reverse side of the coin depicts Achilles in battle beneath the walls of Troy. His weapons and armor, endowed with divine power, stand out in relief thanks to their rich gilding. The obverse side is dedicated to an inexhaustible array of weapons, revealing that the coin is part of a series dedicated to legendary warriors. As the coin is issued with the license of a foreign issuer, namely the island of Niue, its obverse side also bears the necessary attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue, 2023.
The issue limit of the coin by T&S Coin is only 500 pieces.
