Product description
This silver coin featuring the legendary military commander Alexander the Great is a unique work of art and a collector's rarity.
In the 4th century BC, dark clouds were gathering over the Greek world – political disputes, clashes between city-states and the threat of the Persian Empire, which stretched from India to the Aegean Sea. Salvation came in the form of a boy born in Macedonia, on the border between the Hellenic and barbarian worlds. Alexander, son of King Philip II, who conquered the Greeks, was strong and decisive even as a child. He was taught by Aristotle himself, knew literature and natural sciences, but could think of only one thing – conquering the world. When his father was assassinated, the twenty-year-old Alexander ascended the Macedonian throne. He soon proved that he was not merely an heir, but a leader with a clear vision. He went to war against the Persians and faced overwhelming odds in battles that would have broken an ordinary king. Alexander, however, fought with courage, calm, and brilliant tactical skill. He advanced like lightning and sowed fear and respect in the hearts of his enemies. He knew no rest – he marched across deserts, rivers, and mountains, from Egypt to the borders of India. He fought alongside his men on the front lines, triumphing even where victory seemed impossible, and it seemed as if he were the descendant of Zeus himself. But even the greatest commander is not immortal. Alexander breathed his last at the age of thirty-two, exhausted and ill. His monumental empire did not survive him for long. However, his fame resonates to this day – anyone who utters the name Alexander immediately adds the Great...
The reverse side of the coin depicts Alexander the Great in the heat of battle. The commander sits on his faithful horse Bukephalos, whose hooves crush a Persian soldier. The Macedonian power is emphasized by the rich gilding of the relief. The obverse side is dedicated to an inexhaustible number of weapons, which reveal that the coin is part of a series dedicated to legendary warriors. As the coin is issued with the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, its obverse side also bears the necessary attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.
The issue limit of the coin by T&S Coin is only 500 pieces.
