Product description
This silver coin featuring the legendary gladiator Spartacus is a unique art work and a collector's rarity.
The Roman Republic, which ruled with the brutal force of its legions and the corrupt power of its senate, was convinced of its invincibility until a single man opposed to it. He was neither a noble politician nor an experienced military leader. His name was Spartacus, and he was a mere slave – a Thracian gladiator condemned to die in a bloody arena for the entertainment of the Romans. However, he refused to accept this fate. Together with his fellow fighters, he rebelled and sparked the greatest slave uprising the world had ever seen. From a group of just 70 escaped gladiators, his army grew to 120,000 people. Such was the power of the vision of a man who did not desire territory or wealth, but freedom. The successes of the slaves, who defeated the invincible Roman legions on their home turf, caused panic in Rome. But then disagreements began to emerge among the rebels. Some of them longed to return peacefully to their countries of origin, while others wanted to take revenge on the Romans until their last breath. This disunity proved fatal for them. They were defeated in the decisive battle, tens of thousands were massacred, and thousands more were crucified – as a warning to anyone who dared to defy Rome. However, Spartacus' body was never found, and his name went down in history. It became an eternal reminder that even the most powerful empire is not invulnerable when confronted with the desire for freedom...
The reverse side of the coin depicts Spartacus at the height of his gladiatorial fame – fighting against overwhelming odds in the arena, with a sword in one hand and a spear in the other hand. His weapons and equipment stand out in relief thanks to their rich gilding. The obverse side is dedicated to a huge number of weapons, revealing that the coin is part of a series dedicated to legendary warriors. As the coin is issued with the license of a foreign issuer, the island of Niue, its obverse side also bears the necessary attributes – the national emblem, the nominal value of FIVE DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.
The issue limit of the coin minted by T&S Coin is only 500 pieces.
