Product description
The two-ounce silver coin with the motif of a winged monkey is an artistic and technical unique as well as a collector's unique piece. Its creation was inspired by The Wizard of Oz - a fairy-tale novel written by American writer Lyman Frank Baum in 1900.
When Dorothy is swept away by a tornado from her native Kansas to the magical land of Oz, she encounters a host of incredible creatures. She became friend with some of them, but others she had to watch out for. Flying monkeys, for example, got in her way. They once lived happily and freely in the great forest, with no worries and no master, doing whatever they wanted. They pulled animals by the tail and threw nuts at people, but although they were naughty, they were not evil. But then they teased the fiance of a powerful princess, who enslaved them as punishment. They lost their free will and had to serve whoever owned the golden hat. One day the mighty cap fell into the hands of an evil witch, who made the flying monkeys her minions. With their help, she began to conquer the land of Oz until her plans were foiled by Dorothy. The kind-hearted girl outwitted the witch and helped free the monkeys...
The reverse of the coin presents a winged monkey and the emblem of Oz. The keyhole, which is part of it, symbolizes the allegory for which the fairy tale is famous. The obverse side is then dedicated to the Emerald City and the coin's issuer, the island of Niue - bearing its national emblem, the nominal value of 5 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024. All of this appears in high relief, embellished with patina, gilding and green Swarovski crystals.
T&S Coin 's issue limit is just 500 pieces.
