Product description

The Czech National Bank issued the silver coin in standard quality with a nominal value of 200 CZK on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Max Švabinský.

Max Švabinský was a lively admirer of all the beauties of the world - the magic of nature and women who surrounded and inspired him throughout his life. His work was extensive and versatile. In addition to oil paintings and pen drawings, he was also devoted to lithography, woodcuts and stained glass. He became famous for his portraits, landscape paintings and erotic motifs. In applied graphics he created numerous designs for postage stamps, banknotes, book covers and posters. His dedication to his work was exemplary. For example, he worked on a monumental painting entitled Harvest for thirteen years. His work culminated in the portraits of Czech greats - Palacký, Dvořák, Neruda, Wolker, Alš, Šalda, Náprstek, … Švabinský belonged to the most important Czech artists of the 20th century and contributed greatly to achieve fame for our visual arts throughout Europe thanks to his diligence, skill and precision.

The design by the medal maker MgA. Josef Oplištil won the art competition of the Czech National Bank. The reverse side belongs to a faithful portrait of Max Švabinský. The obverse side presents a perfect relief reconstruction of Švabinský' most famous painting entitled Chudý kraj (The Poor Country).

All Czech coins - both commemorative and circulation - are minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
