Product description
The series of silver coins of the Czech National Bank with a nominal value of 500 CZK, which will commemorate famous means of transport over the course of five years, presents its second issue. The 2022 coin, which was minted in the standard version, is dedicated to the JAWA 250 motorcycle type 353.
The JAWA 250 Type 353 motorcycle was created as part of the so-called Unified or National Series, which was the result of central planning in the 1950s. It inherited from its predecessor, which was the legendary post-war JAWA 250 "Pérák", a simple two-stroke engine with a displacement of 250 cc, but its frame had a completely new design. The distinctive feature of the motorcycle became the rear swingarm, which the previous models did not have and which earned the appropriate nickname. “Kývačka“ (the "swingarm"), whose series production took place between 1954 and 1962, was a huge sales success not only at home but also abroad. It was exported to 120 countries around the world, thanks to its excellent design, high utility value and attractive appearance. The red motorcycles with gold lines still attract attention on the roads today...
The author of the commemorative coin is the medal maker Petra Brodská, DiS. The expert committee of the Czech National Bank was particularly impressed by the "perfect representation of the motorcycle and its parts". While the obverse side of the coin presents a depiction of Kývačka from the side and above, the reverse side features a three-quarter view of the motorcycle accompanied by technical diagrams. The use of red enamel, distinguishes this issue from conventional silver coins and gives selected parts of the motorcycle an authentic look.
All Czech coins - both circulation and commemorative - are minted by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou.
