Folk motifs
The Parchovany costume is another cultural treasure that inspired the Czech Mint's silver coins dedicated to Slovak folk motifs.
Eastern Slovakia is extremely diverse, not only in terms of geography, which includes majestic mountain peaks and vast plains. Slovaks, Hungarians and Ruthenians live in close proximity here, and the proximity of these cultures has contributed to the development of a number of distinctive folk traditions. The Zemplín village of Parchovany, for example, has its own customs, songs, dances and, of course, folk costumes. Originally, the costumes were embroidered in black and white, but soon they were resplendent in all colours. The women's costumes are characterised by the ruffles on the lower skirts, called fodras, and the elaborate decoration of the upper part of the garment. Each girl creates this herself to distinguish herself from the others. The colourful geometric patterns and rich skirts stand out especially during karički - the typical girls' dances for which Zemplín is famous. Of course, the men of Parchovany also have their costumes. They include hats and embroidered shirts, but also spurs.
The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of Petra Brodská, DiS., presents a Slovak double-armed cross, which is made up of ornaments of the Parchovany costume. Since the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the licence of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the national emblem, the nominal value of ONE DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.
The coin, which is set in a special packaging will serve as a beautiful regional gift. Do not overlook coins dedicated to the Čičmany pattern or Dětva embroidery.
