Product description
This new non-traditional issue of the Czech Mint celebrates one of the most famous cars in the history of the automobile. This is none other than the legendary Ford Model T, which celebrated a milestone when the millionth car drove through the factory gates to meet its new owner exactly one hundred years ago – December 10th, 1915. This remarkable success was achieved by Henry Ford after only seven years of producing the vehicle, which was chosen over 700 other tin beauties in 1999 as the Automobile of the Century.
Between 1908 and 1927 more than 15 million Model T cars were sold. Henry Ford’s original plan of building a universal car that was affordable for the American middle class began to come to fruition in 1913 thanks to the innovative introduction of the assembly line and focus on producing a single model – the Model T, also known as the Tin Lizzie. Americans loved the model for its unbeatable price, which during the best years even fell below 300 $ (today 3,700 $), but also for its reliability, easy maintenance, and ability to survive the rigors of the roads at that time. The Model T also registered another first - it was the first automobile to be manufactured in several places in the world at the same time – in Great Britain, Germany, and countries in South America including Argentina and Brazil.
The spectacular success of the car inspired the Czech Mint to issue a non-traditional oval 1 NZD Smart Coin of pure silver complemented with original color details from the collector’s series Milestones in Global Transportation. The creator of the template is experienced medal maker MgA. Jan Oplištil, who made good use of his excellent sense of composition. On the obverse, in addition to attributes of the issuer, he placed graceful reliefs of three popular variants of the Model T. The reverse bears an assembly line motif and bi-lingual texts. The attractive subject of the coin, catchy design and limited issue of only 500 pieces will surely attract great interest from coin collectors and antique car lovers. Be sure to reserve this exceptional addition to your collection in time!
