Solar System

The Czech Mint presents the Moon - our eternal celestial companion - after the life-giving Sun on the silver coin from the Solar System cycle.

The Moon, also known
as Luna, is the only natural orbital of the Earth that shines on its sky most nights - not with its own light but with the reflected light of the Sun. As it orbits the Earth, the Moon rotates in such a way that only one of its hemispheres can be observed. It is covered with craters, mountains and "seas" - dark spots are formed by hardened lava. The moon is small and light. Therefore, its gravitational force is weak and can not hold the atmosphere. Yet it is constantly affecting the Earth while causing tidal effect – high and low tides of the seas and oceans. The coin was issued in 2019, when 50 years have passed since the human touched the moon…

The reverse side of the coin was made by the author duo
Asamat Baltaev, DiS., and Jiří Hanuš, DiS. It is dominated by the colored depiction of the Moon together with an embossed depiction of the Earth. The embossed relief also presents other planets orbiting the Sun. The composition is complemented by the Latin inscription LUNA. Photographs or computer graphics were not used for coloring. Coin authors created original watercolor paintings. The mintages are characterized by a special processing - a combination of proofing, sandblasting and laser - in order to get a new effect, which we call the “moon dust”. The obverse side of the coin was dedicated to depiction of the entire solar system and presents astronomical symbols for each planet. In the center of the system there is a portrait of Elizabeth II, which belongs to essential attributes of the coin issuer along with the Queen's name, the year of the issue 2019 and the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD). This is the Pacific Island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own commemorative coins.

You can save the twelve-piece set of space coins in an epic
collector´s album which can be found in the offer of the Czech Mint.
