Product description

Who would not know Silent Night, the legendary Christmas carol, which was first played 200 years ago and which became the inspiration for the silver commemorative medal of the Czech Mint.

Once Upon a Time, there was a small church in the small town of Oberndorf. Organist Franz was just preparing for Christmas Mass when he revealed great misfortune ... so a fairy tale about the origin of the most famous Christmas carol in the world could begin. Teacher and organist Franz Xaver Gruber together with the chaplain and poet Joseph Mohr became the authors of the carol. But the the church mice that bit through the organ also played the great part of the Silent Night. The perforated bellows could not be repaired, but the midnight mass could not be without music. Gruber and Mohr therefore had to come up with a song that could be played without an organ. Mohr remembered that there was a poem about the birth of the Savior he once wrote, and Gruber composed a simple but gripping melody to play the guitar. The ink did not even get dry, and they began to try. The teacher sang bass, the priest sang tenor and played the guitar, and the children´s choir sang a chorus. The mass, crowned with a new carol, has been remembered by all the participants - thank God, because the original notation was lost. When the organ repairer came to Oberndorf, he was so enthusiastic about the cartoon and its story so that he played it on all his journeys. It did not take long, and the Silent Night was played in the courtyard of the Austrian Emperor, the Russian Tsar, and in far America. Gradually, it has been translated into hundreds of world languages and has become part of UNESCO's cultural heritage.

The reverse side of the medal from the atelier of the medal maker Mária Filová, DiS. was dedicated to some languages in which the carol is sung. The foreign title of the carol is surrounded by the six-pointed Christmas star. The obverse side then belongs to the first verses and part of the song´s stave in Czech.

The commemorative medal is stored in an attractive gift packaging.
