In 1885, it means 130 years ago in Mannheim, Karl Benz showed his four cylinder tricycle for the first time, and on 29 January 1886 he first registered it at the patent office as a Patent Motorwagen. The phenomenon called car was born then. It has been an extremely adventurous journey since then up to the present, decorated with a wide range of jewels. One of them is undoubtedly the Phaeton Walter model, which is now immortalized in sterling silver by the Czech Mint within a popular collector's series History of motoring in the Czech lands.
Walter cars were produced in Prague – Jinonice, in a factory which became famous for its production of aircraft engines. Phaeton was the second type created after the First World War - it differed from the previous engine with suspended valves in removable cylinder head and unconventional was also the solution of the engine with its uncovered distribution bars outside the block – as well as the rocker arms through the slots in the head cover. Four-cylinder engine with a capacity of 1544 cm3 with an output of 15 kW (21 hp) at 2000 rpm with a four-speed gearbox weighed 950 kg, moved at a maximum speed of 85 km / h for every 100 kilometers consumed 9-11 liters of fuel. Renovated original of the successful model of the car can be also currently seen in the collections of automotive enthusiasts.
Another legend of Czech motoring, the engine Walter Phaeton, was converted into the form of attractive mintage of pure silver by academic sculptor Jiří Dostál. He dedicated the obverse side of the silver medal to the graceful curves of the car along with the company`s logo Walter, type of the engine PHAETON P-4 and the year 1927. The reverse with an impressive realization of an automobile wheel bears the name of the series HISTORY OF MOTORING IN THE CZECH LANDS on the perimeter.
