Czech Lion 2024
The unique edition of the Czech Mint's bullion coin Czech Lion is minted from one kilogram of pure silver and covered with precious stones. The embossed relief is supplemented with amethysts.
The miraculous power of amethyst was used by people in ancient times - even the philosopher Aristotle was aware of it. This variety of quartz, which takes on different shades of purple, calms emotions, banishes fear and quells anger. It also promotes concentration, decision-making, logical reasoning and sobriety. In the Middle Ages, the precious stone became popular among Christians. It became a symbol of chastity and restraint for church dignitaries.
"Amethyst focuses the mind and gets rid of all vicious thoughts," said the Italian Renaissance genius Leonardo da Vinci. Amethyst was also considered a stone of spiritual purity and meditation in the Czech lands. Charles IV was particularly enchanted by it and had it decorated in the chapels of Karlštejn and St. Vitus Cathedral. The pious emperor also had amethysts set in the coronation cross and the St. Wenceslas Crown. Based on the biblical Revelation of St. John, they reminded him of the Heavenly Jerusalem.
Another famous ruler, Rudolf II, was also able to appreciate the rare mineral, which can be found for example in the Ore Mountains or the Bohemian Paradise. These had healing powers. Amethyst strengthens the immune system, purifies the blood, fights pain and helps fight addiction...
In 2024, all variants of the bullion coin received a brand new relief, but the main idea remained the same. The reverse side is dominated by a realistic Czech lion wearing the St. Wenceslas Crown. The additional motif is an eagle, which is a synthesis of the St. Wenceslas, Moravian and Silesian bird of prey. The inscription CZECH REPUBLIC is placed in a wedge, which evokes the Czech flag. The author of the relief is traditionally medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the licence of a foreign issuer, which is the island of Niue, their obverse side bears its necessary attributes - the portrait of King Charles III, the nominal value of 80 DOLLARS (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.
The coin, whose mintage is only 50 pieces, is placed in a luxurious wooden box. The authenticity of the amethysts is certified by a certificate issued by the company Granát Turnov, which is an integral part of the packaging.
