The largest collectors’ event in Central and Eastern Europe is the Sběratel fair in Prague. Thanks to this event, enthusiasts of postage stamps, postcards, gramodesky, minerals, banknotes and, of course, coins from all corners of the world flock to the Czech Republic. The Czech Mint is an integral part of this traditional fair, and in 2026 it has prepared a special product for visitors - a coloured commemorative medal featuring a lion motif. Among the most popular symbols across time and cultures are animals. Their faceless forms are not only easily recognisable, but above all are regarded as embodiments of qualities that people wish to express or claim as their own. The eagle represents freedom and the ability to see far into the distance; the wolf, perseverance and the cohesion of the pack; the owl, wisdom and vigilance. And the lion? The king of beasts symbolises courage and power. He does not use his strength recklessly, but with prudence – for a true leader is not one who rules by force, but one who, with its help, protects others. It is therefore no wonder that a whole host of nations have borrowed its natural authority. The lion can be found, for example, in the coats of arms of Great Britain, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Finland, Norway, Denmark, Estonia, Spain, Bulgaria and, of course, the Czech Republic. The Czech lion, however, differs from all other heraldic beasts as a reward for the bravery of the Czechs in the Middle Ages, it was granted a second tail, which lends it extraordinary prestige. Alongside the heroism displayed by our ancestors on the battlefield, it also symbolises independence, pride and a willingness to defend one’s homeland at any cost…

The obverse side of the medal is dominated by a detailed depiction of the majestic lion’s face. The motif is rendered in vivid colours, achieved using colourisation technology. On the reverse side, you will find a QR code that links to the Czech Mint’s website.

The commemorative medal, made of base metal, is presented in themed packaging. The mintage is limited to just 300 pieces.
