Product description
The eighth gold coin in the five-year cycle of the Czech National Bank, which is dedicated to the urban conservation areas of the Czech Republic, features the beauty of Moravská Třebová. The mintage with a nominal value of 5,000 CZK is minted in quality standard.
The West Moravian town of Moravská Třebová, founded in 1257, grew up "on a green field" - during the German colonization of an unsettled forest area on the border of Bohemia and Moravia. The first great flowering of the estate took place at the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, when the estate was ruled by Ladislav of Boskovice. He rebuilt the local castle into a chateau, where Renaissance elements appeared for the first time in the Czech lands, and began to concentrate his collections and extensive library there. The magnificent building was given three late Renaissance wings, which today are among the most valuable Mannerist monuments in Central Europe. At this time, Moravská Třebová became a centre of humanistic education and was nicknamed the "Moravian Athens". In spite of the devastating fires that engulfed the town in the 16th and 19th centuries, many other precious sights have been preserved besides the castle - for example, the Renaissance Town hall, the Renaissance Latin school, the town houses with late Gothic and Renaissance mausoleums, the Baroque Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the Baroque Plague Column. All this earned the historic centre of Moravská Třebová the title of a town conservation area in 1980.
The author of the coin is the academic sculptor Zbyněk Fojtů. The expert committee of the Czech National Bank appreciated "a very elaborate collage of the main landmarks of the city's conservation area". While the obverse side is dominated by the Town hall and the castle, the reverse side features the town houses, the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, the Plague Column and the fountain in the castle courtyard.
You can store the collection of gold coins from the ten-piece cycle of the Czech National Bank in a wooden collector's case that you can also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
