Myths, mysteries and fairy tales - all this is offered by the cycle of the Czech Mint entitled Legends of Czech Castles. The fourth pure gold commemorative medal commemorates the legend of the Owl Princess at Sovinec.

Sovinec Castle is a mysterious and dark place. Whoever visits it will experience oppressive feelings and may meet one of the local phantoms - the Black Lady, the Grey Elf, the Fire Horse or the Owl Princess. She used to be an ordinary girl who picked blueberries in the surrounding woods. One day she wanted to enjoy the view of the countryside, so she climbed to the top of Owl Rock. A flying feather led her to a cave where she found a sleeping man surrounded by owls. She suddenly realized that he was the mythical Owl King. Everyone in the area knew him, but no one had ever met him - at least not in human form. The unfortunate man had once been cursed by an evil witch. He could only be human in his cave, and whenever he left it, he turned into a howl... The Owl King woke up, saw a girl who had wandered into his home and fell in love with her at first sight. She returned his feelings, but even her love couldn't break the evil spell. The girl didn't mind - she stayed with him in the cave and took care of him. From time to time, however, with a great howl on her shoulder, she would visit the dungeon to beg for something to eat. People were happy to give her gifts - they admired the love that overcomes all hardships. In the end, she overcame even death. When the Owl King and the Owl Princess died, they did not go on forever. They still appear in the castle courtyard and on the slopes of the opposite rock...

The obverse side of the commemorative medal, the work of academic sculptor Majka Wichnerová, presents the Owl Princess holding a rose in one hand and carrying an owl in the other. The stars in the night sky illuminate the silhouette of the castle hidden in the Moravian-Silesian landscape. A detailed view of Sovinec Castle and its cylindrical tower dominates the reverse side.
