Czech Lion 2020
A series of Czech lion - bullion coins minted with a foreign license by the Czech Mint - were issued in 2017. The Czech Mint has been regularly introducing new variants since then. One-ounce silver coin minted in quality proof and decorated with selective gilding was introduced for the first time in 2020.
Since bullion coins are primarily a financial instrument that can have a number of various owners during their lifetime, they are usually minted in the so-called quality standard. The surface of such mintages is matte, it has a long lifetime period and it is resistant to damage. However, thanks to attractive patriotic workmanship and low issuance costs, the Czech Lion bullion coins are also popular among collectors who will be pleased with the top quality proof. This delicate design, which is many times more difficult to manufacture compared to the standard, is characterized by an attractive contrast of glossy surfaces and matte reliefs. Another contrast effect is selective gilding. The central motif of the coin is precisely covered with a layer of gold which gives the silver coin an unusual design.
All variants of the Czech Mint's investment coins were reworked in 2020, but the original idea was retained. Besides the Czech lion in an untraditionally realistic presentation, the reverse side of the silver coin presents two other symbols of Czech statehood - the St. Wenceslas crown on the head of a two-tailed beast, and an eagle on a shield, which is a synthesis of St. Wenceslas, Moravian and Silesian predators. The author of the relief is the medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS. The obverse side bears the necessary elements of the island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign license to mint its own coins. The elements include the portrait and the name of Queen Elizabeth II, the year of issue 2020 and the nominal value of 2 DOLLARS (NZD). All this is supplemented with linden branches.
The silver coin stored in a special packaging represents an addition to the numismatic collection as well as an original and valuable gift - for graduation, wedding, the birth of a child or just for fun…
