The second silver coin of the Czech Mint from the series Cat Breeds is dedicated to the Maine Coon Cat.

First mentioned in the 19th century, the breed originated in Maine, where it was created by crossing American cats with European cats. The coon refers to its resemblance to this teddy bear - the Maine Coon has a bushy tail that is as long as the rest of its remarkably large body. The robust and muscular figure is covered with thick, semi-long fur, which forms a typical collar on the neck. The wedge-shaped head with its prominent muzzle and pointed ears gives the breed a fierce and dominant appearance, but in reality it is a gentle giant that is calm, composed and patient. The Maine Coon Cat clings to its family, with whom it forms a strong bond. She is very cuddly and her playfulness will last a lifetime.

The reverse side of the coin, which is the work of the medal maker David Kružliak, bears two depictions of the Maine cat. The first one is coloured, thus giving the colourful fur to stand out. The second, which is embossed, presents a cat with a bushy tail. The Czech-English inscription MAINE COON CAT completes the composition. On the obverse side, which is common to the whole series, you will find a silhouette of a cat and paw prints. As the coins of the Czech Mint are issued with the foreign licence of the island of Niue, their obverse sides also bear its national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2024.
