The ninth silver coin from the Czech Mint’s series entitled The Human Body is dedicated to the digestive system -  the intestines.

The digestive system ensures food intake, its mechanical and chemical processing, the absorption of nutrients, which are distributed to the tissues, and finally the elimination of undigested or indigestible waste products from the body. The human digestive system is a total of 9 metres long – from the mouth to the anus –‍, with its longest part being the intestines, which follow on from the stomach. In the small intestine, which is up to 7 metres long, partially digested food is further broken down into simpler substances, which are then absorbed into the bloodstream. Food residues pass into the 1.5-metre-long large intestine, where vitamins, minerals and water are absorbed, resulting in the formation of solid faeces.

The reverse side of the coin, designed by the medallist Jan Štekl, DiS., features a cross-section of the human abdomen, revealing the internal organs with an emphasis on the colourised intestines. The composition is completed by the Latin inscription INTESTINUM (intestine). On the obverse side, which is common to the entire series, you will find a colourised double helix of DNA. Since the coins from the Czech Mint are issued under a foreign licence from the island of Niue, the obverse side also bears its coat of arms, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2026.
