Nikola Tesla
The second silver coin in a four-part miniseries dedicated to the brilliant inventor Nikola Tesla commemorates his groundbreaking discoveries that earned him the nickname "Master of Lightning".
When a boy was born in a small Croatian village in 1856, a storm raged in the sky. The midwife claimed it was a bad omen, but little did she know that she had just helped bring into the world the "Master of lightning" who, with the help of electricity, would change the course of human history... A modern-day Prometheus named Nikola Tesla was far ahead of his time - experimenting with things his contemporaries did not even dream of. He tamed the power of Niagara Falls and made possible to transmit electricity over long distances. He developed the wireless communication technologies that underpin radio and television broadcasting. He made possible remote control, neon lighting, the microwave oven, radar and missiles. He experienced strange mental states - he saw all kinds of visions and technical drawings in the flashes of light that appeared before his eyes. He predicted the arrival of mobile phones and the advent of artificial intelligence that would change the world. He dreamed of finding an unlimited source of energy and his theories about harnessing the sun's rays are still built by scientists today. Yet history overlooks this extraordinary man whose inventions are in every household. He was not only brilliant, but eccentric. He was closer to pigeons than the people he feared. He was full of ideas, but he couldn't think of a practical use for them. He hadn't even had time to patent many of his groundbreaking ideas before he was on to something else, something even more fantastic. Since his entire estate was seized by the US government, we'll probably never know if he really caused the Tunguska disaster, the death rays or the Philadelphia experiment...
Medal maker Asamat Baltaev, DiS., dedicated the reverse side of the coin to a portrait of Nikola Tesla surrounded by electrical discharges. Inside the bundle of lightning bolts looms a light bulb, which the inventor was able to light up with the help of wireless energy transmission. The composition is supplemented with the English inscription MASTER OF LIGHTNING. The lightning bolts can also be found on the obverse side of the coin, which is common to the entire miniseries. As the licence to issue the commemorative coins of the Czech Mint is granted by the Pacific island of Niue, the obverse side bears its necessary elements - the national emblem, the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD) and the year of issue 2023.
You can store the four coins dedicated to the life and work of Nikola Tesla in a special collector's box that you can also find in the offer of the Czech Mint.
