Solar System
The last silver coin of the Czech Mint from the Solar System series is dedicated to the planet Neptune.
After the discovery of Uranus, astronomers began searching for other planets and found one in the 19th century. The last planet of the solar system, which is also the last gas giant, was named after the Roman god of the seas. Neptune gets only minimal heat from the 4.5 billion-kilometre distanced sun, but it generates its own, which then powers stormy weather systems. Neptune's winds are the strongest in the solar system - blowing at 2,400 kilometres per hour, more than twice the speed of sound. The planet has no shortage of rings, though they are very thin, and Triton stands out among its moons, which experience gas and dust eruptions.
The reverse side of the coin was dedicated by the medal makers Asamat Baltaev, DiS., and Jiří Hanuš, DiS., to the depiction of Neptune in vivid colours, which was achieved using pad printing technology. The embossed relief shows the Sun surrounded by the orbits of other planets of the solar system. The composition is closed by the Latin inscription NEPTUNUS. No photographs or computer graphics were used as the basis for the colouring - the authors of the coins created original watercolour paintings. The surface of the coins is characterized by a special treatment - a combination of proofing, sandblasting and pouring of the stamps was used to achieve a new effect, which we called "moon dust". The obverse side of the coin is dedicated to the depiction of the entire solar system and presents astronomical symbols of the individual planets. In the centre of the system there is a portrait of Elizabeth II, which, together with the Queen's name, the year of issue 2021 and the nominal value of 1 DOLLAR (NZD), is an essential attribute of the issuer of the coin. This is the Pacific island of Niue, which provides the Czech Mint with a foreign licence to mint its own commemorative coins.
You can save the coin dedicated to Neptune in a collector's album full of interesting facts about the universe and its conquerors.
